1. Grand Forks' First Post Office Marker
Inscription. Nicholas Hoffman and August Loon built this log cabin in 1868 on a site that is now the 500 block of Reeves Drive. In 1870 the cabin became Grand Forks' first post office, with Sanford Cady as postmaster. In the 1880s the cabin was moved in preparation for a new development. The elegant Reeves Drive neighborhood that emerged remains on of the most beautiful places to live in the city today.

During the Urban Renewal in 1975, demolition workers rediscovered the cabin on the corner of Cottonwood street and Second Avenue South. Wood siding and plaster hid the logs from view and it blended in with the other homes in the area. It was moved to the Grand Forks County Historical Society grounds later that year and restored to its original rustic character.
