Inscription. An aviation pioneer of huge historical statue, he served as aircraft mechanic for Billy Mitchell during aerial gunnery and bombing test in 1921; Charles Lindberg for the "Sprit of St. Louis" Goodwill Mission to Mexico City in 1927; and Carl Spaatz and Ira Eaker on the "Question Mark" record-setting flight in 1929, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. During his 30 year aviation career, he also served as crew chief for other aviation heroes, including Lester Maitland, Albert Hagenberger, and Amelia Earhart.
 
Erected 2001 by Airlift/Tanker Association Hall of Fame.
