History
The 22nd Bombardment Group was activated on 1 February 1940
First group equipped with Martin Marauder B-26 aircraft in early 1941.
Commenced strikes against enemy land, sea, and air forces in the
Southwest Pacific on 6 April 1942. Aircraft losses were replaced with
North American Mitchell B-25 aircraft in October 1943. Conversion to
Consolidated Liberator B-24 aircraft in 1944 enabled the group
to conduct long range missions throughout the Pacific area
until the end of hostilities.
