Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company
Founded by August Krug in 1849
Joseph A. Schlitz, Krug's bookkeeper, takes over management after Krug dies in 1856
1858 Schlitz married Krug's widow, Ann Marie, and a few years later changes the name to the Joseph Schlitz Brewery.
The Schlitz Brewery relocated to this site in 1870 - first at the south east corner of 3rd Street (Martin Luther King Drive) & Walnut Street
Schlitz surpasses Pabst as the world's best-selling beer after selling one million barrels in 1902.
Schlitz becomes the World's largest brewer for more than 50 years.
The Schlitz Brewery closed in September 1981 and the Schlitz Brewing Company was sold to Stroh Brewing Company of Detroit in June 1982
The Brewery Works purchases the Schlitz Brewery complex from Stroh in 1983 to create Schlitz Park
