Callery Pear Tree
Thanks to the Survivor Tree Seeding Program by the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, this Callery pear tree was grown from the fruit harvest from a severely damaged tree found during the rescue and recovery process at the World Trade Center in New York in the days that followed September 11, 2001.
Known around the world as the Survivor Tree, the collapse of the Twin Towers nearly destroyed it. Thanks to recovery workers, the broken burned tree was rescued. harvested to produce seedlings, nurtured back to health, and returned to its original location where it now stands on the plaza at the 9/11 Memorial in New York.
Both the Survivor Tree in New York, and this tree produced from its fruit, stand as symbols of America's optimism and unbreakable sprit.
