Washington’s March To Trenton
Early on the Winter’s morning of December 26, 1776, at a pivotal moment in the war, George Washington and the Continental Army passed this point on their March to confront Hessian forces at Trenton.
Twenty-four hundred soldiers and eighteen horse drawn field pieces trundled down the slippery banks of Jacobs Creek and forded its icy waters a short distance downstream from this spot.

The marker is located at the northeast end of the Bear Tavern Road Bridge. The Bear Tavern Bridge, built in 1882, crosses Jacobs Creek and is the oldest thru truss bridge in the United States.
