The business was started when Mr. Jewell Hudgins bought out Gower Furniture. This was originally a two-story building with 10,000 square feet; the 3rd story being added in 1957 making the building 15,000 square feet. The building on the side was added later, in 1985, bringing the total square footage up to 20,000. It was one of the first buildings in town to have an elevator.
