R. L. Smith Furniture and Appliance opened in this location in 1972, now the oldest store of its kind in the city. The family owned business occupied this space for 21 years. Robert Troup bought the building in 1993 to expand his business. The building has a pent roof and gabled dormers.

R. L. Smith first started a television and appliance center at the corner of Doyle and Pond Streets on June 1, 1966. In January of 1972, Smith Furniture opened in this downtown location, formerly a garage, where the store operated for 21 years. Mr. Smith actively supported Downtown Toccoa through the years and served as president of the Downtown Merchants Association. Smith Furniture, now located at 1107 S.
