1. Artillery Engineer Storehouse Marker

Artillery Engineer Storehouse. . This building was constructed in 1914 by the Quartermaster Corps for use as the Artillery Engineer Storehouse of Fort Williams. The structure housed the tools, equipments, and supplies used by the artillery engineer in maintianing and repairing the large communications system which linked Fort Williams with the other forts guarding Portland Harbor. The storehouse was built of brick and concrete by local contractors to plans prepared by Quartermaster Corps architects in Washington, D.C. In 1929 the building was transferred to the quartermaster of the Fifth Infantry Regiment, garrisoned at Fort Williams during the 1920s and 1930s, and it was used as a storehouse for clothing, crockery, mess gear, rope, tents, and all the other goods supplied by the quartermaster. The building continued to be used as a quartermaster storehouse for the 240th Coast Artillery.
