1. Crosley Field Marker
Inscription. Welcome to the site of Crosley Field. Home of the Reds from 1912-1970. The Reds also played at this site in three other ballparks, beginning in 1884. When Crosley Field opened on April 11, 1912, the Titanic was at sea and the park was known as Redland Field. It was renamed for new owner, Powel Crosley, Jr. in 1934. The next season on May 24, 1935 the first night game in Major League history was played at Crosley Field. The home of the Reds for almost six decades, the park hosted its last game on June 24, 1970, having welcomed over 30 million fans through its gates. Nestled here in Cincinnati's West End, it was built during the period of "Classic” ball park construction that also gave rise to Chicago's Wrigley Field and Boston's Fenway Park.
