Inscription. In 1873 when the city of Fort Worth was incorporated, the intersection of 7th & Houston was open fields. But by the early 1900s the corner had become the center of a vibrant business and financial area.

From 1905-1921 Continental Bank & Trust occupied the former Board of Trade building on the northwest corner of the intersection. In 1912 First National Bank built a ten-story building on the northeast corner. In 1952 Continental National Bank returned to the northwest corner and built a thirty-story building topped with a revolving digital clock with 25 foot high numbers. Fort Worth National Bank occupied its headquarters on the southeast corner from 1956-1973. The banks now have new names and locations:

XTO Energy purchased the 1952 Continental National Bank building (Landmark Tower) in 2005. The building was imploded March 18, 2006, the tallest building in Texas to be imploded.
