Inscription.
This stone faηade building shows the influence that the new courthouse had during the early 1900’s. This building has wonderful details especially the wheat garlands above the second story windows and the projecting cornice.

From the time the building was constructed, following the Great Fire of 1904, it has been home to a drug store. The first being Draper & Loughlin.

John Hess, the founder of Hess Drug started out working in this building around 1907 and later bought the business. In 1945, this building was gutted by fire and was rebuilt by the Hess Family. Unfortunately, the walnut fixtures that John Hess had purchased at the Saint Louis World’s fair were lost.

The building still houses a working soda fountain installed after the fire.

Please proceed to 109 South Clinton Street.
