Inscription.
Despite being built in 1893 this building’s façade, like others, was remodeled at a later date. The remodeling took place first in 1903 and later in 1930 after fires destroyed much of the building, including the third floor in 1930. That fire was so intense that it ignited the lumber yard located one block to the south on Clinton Street, started the roof of the T. B. Perry House (two blocks to the west) on fire and spread ashes throughout the town.

Even though the façade is of a later date than many of the other buildings of its style it still blends in well with the district. The use of cast concrete panels and cast concrete jack-arched lintels give the building a Neo-classical appearance. The brick on the new Façade was representative of the new interest in different textures and colors of brick.

The original building was constructed with the building immediately south and was similar in appearance to it.

The building was built by the local Odd Fellows, who frequently constructed commercial buildings with meeting halls for their organization on the second or third floors, while renting out the lower floor(s) to businesses.

The building has held a variety of businesses but it was best known for housing the Strasburger and Verveer Department Store from 1900 to Depression days occupying two full floors
