Inscription. Construction of the Alexandra suspension bridge was the greatest achievement of one of British Columbia's first civil engineers, Joseph Trutch. Chief Commissioner of Lands and Works after 1864, he sat on the colony's Legislative Council. He led the delegation in 1870 which negotiated the terms of union with Canada and from 1871-76 served as the province's first lieutenant-governor.

Location. 49° 42.446′ N, 121° 24.852′ W. Marker is near Yale, British Columbia, in Fraser Valley. Marker can be reached from Trans-Canada Highway (Provincial Highway 1) south of Anderson River Mainline Road, on the right when traveling south. Marker is at the railroad tracks on the Old Cariboo Highway trail to the old Alexandra Suspension Bridge. It is about 0.2 miles from the parking lot off the highway. Touch for map.
