1. The Churches of Old Town (#8) Marker
Inscription. The churches of Old Town reflect the community's early history. German immigrants established St. Joseph's Parish in 1846 at 1107 North Orleans. In 1852, Michael Diversey, a prominent member of St. Joseph's Parish, donated land at North Avenue and Hudson for St. Michael's Church. In 1869, St. Michael's relocated to its present site at Cleveland and Eugenie Streets. A third church, Immaculate Conception, was established in 1859 at 1431 North Park. In 1893, the Anshe Emet Synagogue was established at 1263 North Sedgwick.
