1. Old School Buildings Marker
Inscription. The building on the right was built in 1915 to serve the children of Oriental and Kershaw who in 1917 rode North Carolina's first motorized school bus. During the 1920s the Duke Seashore Summer School used this building for a teacher-training program. The building on the left, reflecting the need for a high school, was erected in 1922. By the early 1970s all students had transferred, to the Bayboro schools. These buildings are now private residences.
