4. Peace Triumphant Memorial - Honor Roll, H section
In addition to the names of the 56 fallen, the memorial also has an honor roll of the names of the 2,446 persons from Oak Park and River Forest who served in the war. Although that is too many to transcribe here, a picture of the H section of the Honor Roll is provided, showing that one "E M Hemingway" (name is front and center of the picture) served. Practically anonymous on the honor roll and born only a quarter of a mile from the monument, he is better known as Ernest Hemingway, the author whose experience on the Italian front during the war led to his well-known debut novel, A Farewell to Arms.
