Inscription. Jim Phillips came to Douglass Long Beach in 1968 as a power plant engineer. After a short assignment on the DC-10 program, he joined the DC-9 project, and rose to become the Chief Design Engineer for the DC9/MD-80 program. He was later named deputy Vice President - General Manager of Twinjet Programs. As Vice President, Product Support, Jim led the reorganization of Product Support, and later became Vice President General Manager of the 717 Program, retiring as Vice President - Site Manager for all Boeing Commercial operations in Long Beach.
