Contributing property, Harlan Courthouse Square Commercial District, National Register of Historic Places #94001099.
From the NRHP nomination: Fred A. Smith, architect; Wm. H. Cockerell, contractor/builder. This two-story brick block has two storefronts separated by a central staircase that accesses the upper floor. Dominant features include a metal cornice, decorative window hoods, and tall, narrow windows that indicate an Italianate influence. Carrara glass was applied to storefront exterior of the east half of the Wheeler Block. Carrara glass is a pigmented structural glass that was used extensively in the 1930s and 1940s to cover both exterior and interior wall surfaces. These opaque panels, which were produced in a variety of colors, often had a marbleized or mirror finish. The interior features the original oiled wood floor and a pressed tin ceiling.
