1. Brewer Street Marker
Inscription. Chauncey M. Brewer immigrated from upstate New York in 1836 at the age of 21 years. He was elected Marshall's first Treasurer in 1838 and by occupation was a prosperous dry goods merchant with associates which included his sons, C.D. and E.G. Brewer. The "Eagle Store” at 202 West Michigan Avenue operated within the Brewer family until 1925 and continued as a dry goods business until 1984. His home, the Oak Hill Mansion, he built in 1858.
