Inscription. In 1874 Messrs. Andrew and Liston partnered with Messrs. Barker and Johnson to construct the first brick building on the square. The Andrew & Liston Bookstore resided here for two years before Mr. Andrew sold his interest in the book business and associated himself with Hugh R. Creighton in the real estate and abstract industry. Mr. Liston renamed the business the Palace Book Store and managed it successfully at this address for a decade before relocating to the north side of the square.

Upon the vacancy of Mr. Liston, Barker and Johnson expanded their store to include this portion of the building until 1897. At that time Mr. Barker retired and the business became known as the G.E. Johnson Dry Goods Store. Mr. Johnson downsized the business to include only 108 and 110 North Howard but enjoyed a long and successful career at this location through the early 1920's.

The nature of the business changed to shoes for the next 90 years. The first shop owner to succeed Mr. G.E. Johnson was Carl Johnson, followed by Hickman Shoes, Jones' Shoes, Harold's Shoes, Moureau's Shoes and finally Koch's Family Footwear. The most recent resident of 110 North Howard is Victoria's Boutique which opened in November 2008. They specialize in women's fashion, accessories, and shoes.
