911 Memorial...Never Forget. . On Tuesday morning, September 1 1, 2001 , as the nation watched the horror of three terrorist attacks upon our country, a sense of disbelief, vulnerability, and anger enveloped the American people. At the same time, an overwhelming desire to respond and assist those in need overtook the first responder community. Within hours, Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard and Royal Oak Police Chief Theodore H. Quisenberry, made contact with the New York officials and developed a plan to send representatives from Oakland County Law Enforcement Agencies to The World Trade Center site to provide emergency supplies and trained personnel for on-site response and recovery assistance., Before nightfall, a team of 25 deputy sheriffs and police officers from four agencies, along with a semi-truck of much needed supplies, were on their way to New York. By midday, on September 12, 2001, the emergency supplies arrived in Manhattan and were distributed while the Oakland County Law Enforcement contingency prepared for assignment by the NYPD and the FBI for a mission at Ground Zero. Alongside other responders, their assignments included searching for victims, managing evidence, and providing site security. The next day, five additional deputies arrived joining the response effort. For one week, these selfless and dedicated deputies and police officers worked long hours under extremely challenging and emotional conditions performing tasks very few law enforcement officers will ever experience in their careers. They responded to a call without knowing the risk, what they would encounter, how long the mission would be, or if and how their own needs would be met., This memorial to September 11, 2001, also pays tribute and recognition to the following Oakland County Law Enforcement Officers who answered the call. , Oakland County Sheriff's Office , Sheriff Michael J.
