Inscription.
This site was the home of William Smith Allen who settled here in the 1870s. He sold the property to George Storter, Jr., in 1889 and it was expanded to include a Post Office, trading post, and warehouses for the thriving sugar cane syrup trade.

Barron Collier bought the town in 1922 as the headquarters for the building of the Tamiami Trail and the County Seat. He converted the Storter homestead into the Rod & Gun Club, which was famous for it's fishing and welcomed distinguished guests.

The property was eventually sold in 1971 and continues to be a popular historic place to dine and lodge.
