Fullerton in Vernon Parish, Louisiana — The American South (West South Central)
Public Swimming Pool and Hospital
Fullerton was one of only a few cities in Louisiana that had a public swimming pool. The swimming pool was located across the road from the hotel. The pool was a modern concrete pool with diving boards & slides. A constant stream of fresh water flowed through the pool to the mill pond.
The Fullerton hospital was modern for the time. Employees paid a small fee each month for health coverage: $2.50 per family or $1.50 for single men. According to the 1920 census, Dr. Charles E. Spivey, Dr. R.E. Winham, & Dr. William Glass were the mill physicians at Fullerton.
