1. Netherlands Marker
Inscription. The advance party of the Dutch contingent arrived in Korea on October 24, 1950, but the remainder of the unit’s men did not arrive until December 1950. During the conflict the Royal Netherlands Navy was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation of the Republic of Korea as part of the US 7th Fleet. The responsibilities of the Dutch Naval Forces included escorting aircraft carriers conducting unit infiltration patrols, destroying enemy coastal guns and bunkers, and supporting ground troops with artillery fire. The Netherlands Detachment United Nations (NDUN) was established on October 15, 1950. 3,418 men were sent to Korea. 103 of these men were killed. 3 were missing in action and one man became a POW. 381 men were wounded in action.
