1. Phone Box Marker
Inscription. Phone boxes like this wooden one, or the concrete box across the parking lot, would be situated at points along the track where trains were likely to stop, such as at signal lights. The conductor could call the dispatcher to pass along or receive necessary information about train movements.

The B&O used many of these concrete buildings all over the place at one time. They were replaced by the small telephone box, which in turn, hasn't seen a telephone for many a year once radios became the standard. With fiber optics being the norm now, the old telephone lines have been removed.
