Inscription. Prominent broadcast journalist who began his celebrated career nearby at WDAS Radio as a jazz DJ and reporter. His legacy was cemented at CBS where he worked as a war correspondent in Vietnam and Cambodia, was the first Black White House TV correspondent, anchored the Sunday CBS Evening News; and spent 26 years on the popular news-magazine 60 Minutes helming more than 500 acclaimed stories. He garnered 19 Emmys, 4 Peabodys, and many other honors.
