The rookie from Alameda became Giants starting shortstop im 1971, and secured the position for seven seasons during first of his two tenures in San Francisco. Outstanding gloveman with surprising power, Speier hit .357 vs. Pittsburgh in 1971 NLCS. He returned to Giants to finish 19 year career and hit two grand slams in five-day span (May 5-9, 1987).
