Antiguo Palacio Municipal

City Hall

This building, with an obvious neoclassical style, dates from about the late XIXth or early XXth century, although its construction was not completed until 1927. It was occupied as City Hall for 57 years but in 1984 the offices were moved to another building. Only 25 mayors of Villa Victoria have exercised their mandate in this site, the latter being the mayor Etelvina Vargas García.

Its construction was made possible by the efforts made by two important characters in the city: Delfino Vilchis Velázquez and Pedro M. Morón Vilchis who served as mayors in the early XXth century. Hardly newly opened the Government Palace, a group of cristeros raided the place on several occasions stealing what little was inside.

Currently the original façade remains, with its arches, its cornices and its finial characteristic of the buildings of that time. Now the building is occupied as a school, it houses a public high school.
