2. Ruth Hurlbutt Gardner Obituary.
Squire Ralph Hurlbutt was the first permanent Methodist minister in Gales Ferry. He gave the land on Hurlbutt Rd. for the church, school and cemetery. Ruth Hurlbutt attended grade school in the one room schoolhouse built in 1868.

3. Gales Ferry, Connecticut.
Gales Ferry is a village in the town of Ledyard, Connecticut, United States. It is located along the eastern bank of the Thames River. The village developed as a result of having a ferry to Uncasville located at this site, and from which the village was named. The village is named for the ferry operated by Roger Gale at the current site of a Yale University crew training camp.
