Inscription. German 100mm Field Gun, Model 1904. 10cm Kanone 04. The 100mm Field Gun, Model 1904 was the primary 100mm gun of the German Foot (Heavy) Artillery at the beginning of World War I. The German Foot Artillery branch was composed of 75 percent howitzers and 25 percent guns. These were all originally intended primarily for siege operations. The 10 cm Kanone 04 was a conventional Krupp design of the period with a 105mm tube, a vertical, sliding-wedge breech and a hydro-spring recoil-recuperator system. The two separate-loading bag charges allowed a sustained rate of fire of one round every two minutes. For service as a regular siege artillery piece, the K 04 was pulled behind a limber and was accompanied by a caisson carrying additional ammunition. For mountain service, the tube and recoil system were removed and carried on a small cart pulled by three large horses in a tandem hitch. Then the carriage was dismantled, the service wheels moved to a forward position and the rest of the carriage parts were stacked on this load. In this configuration the 10 cm Kanone 04 could be transported in rough mountainous terrain or in the rugged African colonies. , Caliber - 4.13 in. - 105 mm , Weight - 5,424 lbs. - 2,428 kg , Range - 11,264 yds. - 10,398 m , Shell Weight - 39.5 lbs. - 18 kg , Muzzle Velocity - 1,680 ft/sec. - 512 m/sec. , Elevation - (- 5 to +30 degrees) - (- 89 to + 533 mils) , Traverse - 3 degrees - 71 mils , Rate of Fire - 6 rpm , CCN# 122464 .
