The First National Bank and Trust Co.
The First National Bank and Trust Co.,
which was designed and constructed in the Art Deco and Neo-Classical styles by the Hoggson Brothers firm, opened on May 20, 1930. At the top of the façade are four symbolic saint-like figures, which represent the foundation stones of banking: Integrity, Justice, Safety, and Wisdom. Beneath the windows are eight small roundels representing local activities: Machinery, Education, Charity, Construction, Food Supply, Navigation, Transportation, and Agriculture. In the upper section of the corners are conventionalized lotus flowers, emblematic of plenty; the gargoyles beneath them serve as Guardians of the Treasure. In the picture below is an 1891 view of the previous First National Bank of Sing Sing, which also stood at "The Crossroads of Sing Sing."
