The Kattenhorn Houses
Four similar "cottages" were built in the 1850s as homes for executives of Kattenhorn and Hopke's Hudson River Steam Sugar Refinery Several sugar mills opened along the river after the arrival of the railroad in 1849 and for nearly 25 years dominated the local economy. Inset: Steam Refinery burned on Christmas Eve in 1875. Arson was suspected, with some blaming the workers, others the owners. Many of the employees were German immigrants who moved to Brooklyn when several refineries relocated there.

Cuatro cabañas semejantes fueron construidas en loas años 1850 para los ejecutivos de la Refinería de Azúcar Kattenhorn y Hopke del Río Hudson. Varias azucareras se abrieron a lo largo el río después de la llegada del ferrocarril en 1849 y por casi veinte y cinco años dominaron la economía local. Recuado: La refinería se incendió en la víspera de la Navidad de 1875. Hubo sospechas de ser un incendio premeditado, recayendo las mismas tanto en sus trabajadores como en sus dueños.
