1. William Stipe.
(from History of Montgomery County, Iowa, Illustrated. Des Moines, Iowa Historical and Biographical Co., 1881) William Stipe came on March 1, 1853, to Montgomery county, Iowa, and settled on the farm which he now owns and lives upon. He now owns eight hundred acres of land well-improved and well stocked with hogs and cattle, having about one hundred head of each. Was married October 8, 1846, to Miss Ann Caywood, a native of Tennessee, they have three children: Matilda E., Georgina, and Sarah J.

3. Grant Commercial Historic District.
The historic district covers the town's central business district. Grant is a small town located in northeast Montgomery County in the southwest quadrant of the state. It was platted in 1858, and it was known as Milford until the early 20th century even though its post office was Grant. While not on a railroad, the town was still able to maintain a viable commercial district.
