William Dodson purchased a town lot from W.N. Bennett for the amount of eight hundred dollars. Early in 1894, he began to oversee the construction of a Queen Anne style residence which was completed by that fall.

After William Dodson's death in 1904, his son moved from Knoxville to Humboldt. George Dodson practiced law in Humboldt for four years before purchasing the Ford automobile dealership. In 1931 William Hooper, grandson of William Dodson, moved into the family residence after graduation from Vanderbilt University. He soon became associated with Dodson Ford dealership and in 1950 he purchased all rights to the dealership. …
