Marker is south of the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument at the west end of the "Bridge of Lions" in the square bound by Cathedral Place and King Street, about eight blocks east of Ponce de Leon Boulevard. 1. Juan Ponce de Leon statue
This statue of Juan Ponce de Leσn is a copy of one at the Cathedral in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico (the subject's burial site) which was reportedly cast in New York in 1882 using bronze from English cannons seized by the Spanish after the English attacked San Juan in 1792.

Dates: Original 1881. Replica cast 1922. Dedicated Nov. 12, 1923.
Medium: Sculpture: bronze; Base: Dummerston granite. Dimensions: Sculpture: approx. H. 5 ft. 10 in.; Base: approx. H. 6 ft. x W. 14 ft.
This recast was made in 1922 when the City of San Juan, Puerto Rico allowed casts to be made of their sculpture by the Gorham Manufacturing Company of New York. The sculpture was presented to the City of St. Augustine as a gift from civic leader Dr. Andrew Anderson during a dedication ceremony that was a highlight of the Armistice Day program of 1923.
