1. Persian Carpet Marker
Inscription. From the 1920s through the 1960s, island slopes gistened every summer with the vibrant pink blossoms of an iceplant (Drosanthemum floribundum) known by the residents as "Persian carpet.” The iceplant solved two problems it reduced erosion and it softened the harsh appearance of “the Rock” from San Francisco. This slope's iceplant was restored in 2008.
