1. Santa Fe Train Depot Marker
Inscription. Santa Fe Train Depot. . The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad reached Orange in 1887, offering passenger and freight service. This building was their second depot on this site, built in 1938. To the south is the original depot park, laid out in 1891. The railroad helped make the local citrus industry possible, allowing fresh fruit to be shipped throughout the United States. By the 1920s, more than half a dozen packing houses were located beside the tracks. The Santa Fe Depot closed in 1970 and then was acquired by the City of Orange. Present day passenger connections are provided by Metrolink to Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, and San Diego. . This historical marker was erected in 2011 by Daughters of the American Revolution.
