Hopkins Academy
One of the oldest secondary schools in the country; founded in 1664 through the bequest of Governor Edward Hopkins (1601 – 1607); first classes held at various sites throughout the town including West Street, North Hadley and Hockanum; first actual academy building - Russell Street 1917, destroyed by fire 1860; a new building erected in the center of town, 1865; destroyed by fire 1993; rebuilt 1894; moved to this site 1909; occupied present building 1954.
