Inscription. In 1902 at age 39, Lawrence Decatur Manchester moved his bakery from Luverne, Minnesota, to a Sioux Falls quartzite building containing one oven. The business thrived when local wholesale grocers agreed to handle the Manchester products exclusively throughout their wide trade territory.

In 1915 architect Joseph Schwarz designed a seven-story brick building which was constructed to the east of the biscuit company. The original 1902 building was removed in 1947 to make way for a five-story blonde brick structure.

In 1930 Manchester became president of United Biscuit Company, the company which closed the Sioux Falls bakery in 1960. Raven Industries bought the building in 1961.
