1. The Minnehaha County Courthouse Marker
Inscription. The Minnehaha County Courthouse was built between 1889-1890. Its architect, Wallace Dow, designed the building in the massive Richardsonian-Romanesque style, using rough quartzite stones to impress upon the public the law's majesty and power. At the time of construction, the building was reportedly the "largest court building between Chicago and Denver." For $85,000 the county got its courthouse, but additional funds were needed to finish the clock tower and interior.

As the county grew, an annex was added on the north side for needed office space. A new courthouse was built in 1962, and the old building was abandoned for nearly 12 years.

In 1974 the county decided to use the old courthouse as a museum. Today, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
