1. Phoenix on the Square Marker
Inscription.
On November 13, 2010, a devastating fire destroyed almost all of the southwest section of historical downtown Paoli. This building, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, was completed in the fall of 2012 and stands in memorial to those shops and businesses, many over one hundred and fifty years old, that were lost on that day.

On a weekend in the middle of November, a fire destroyed a historic part of Paoli, Indiana. To those who grew up in the small town, the future for downtown is forever changed. On Nov. 13, those memories became all the town had for the town square that was once full of life. For now, the focus is on salvaging what they can out of the ashes.
