1. Central Fire Station Marker
Inscription. [English] Built in 1928, designed by Ben Proctor, the Italian Renaissance Revival style building contains some elements of the Spanish Colonial Revival style such as the hipped roof and parapet. It was Brownsville's first freestanding fire station; previously the station was part of City Hall at Market Square. The origins of the fire department date back to the city's first volunteer organization, Protection Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1, established in 1875.
