A view of Maple Street looking North toward Hartford Avenue. This photograph shows two woolen mills built in the 1800's. The first building on the right (with the workers standing outside) was built in 1880. The second building in the foreground and situated closer to Hartford Avenue and was built in 1810.

Both mills operated using water power from the nearby Charles River. During World War I, the mills were in operation twenty-four hours a day filling Government contracts.
