Regarding Popeye & The Perennial Pups. Popeye's Pups - Snits and Fido - are early canine cohorts of the Thimble Theatre thespians. Hy Eisman, the current artist in charge of the Popeye newspaper comic strip, named Chester the dog as a tribute to Segar's hometown.
