Melfort Water Tower. . This water tower was purchased from the Prince Albert Penitentiary in 1927 and moved here the following year. The light on top of the tower was put into service in April 1929. Sometime later the frost-free casing was built. The tower was in use until the 1970's, whereupon its usefulness ended. In 1990, City Council passed a motion to have it destroyed, but no immediate action was taken. In 1991, a small group of citizens, recognizing its historical worth, formed a committee to see if funds could be raised to save it. Thanks to the generosity of many local citizens and others across the country, they were successful., The names of those patrons, sponsors, friends and donors are listed here. The committee also thanks those many others who contributed lesser amounts of money, their kindness was appreciated. As well, the committee gives its heartfelt thanks to the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation for its generous grant.
