Rebuilt after is was mostly destroyed by the Great Fire of 1929, the Old Town Hall is a great example of multi-functional municipal buildings popular in Alberta during this era. Services housed in Old Town Hall included a fire station, police department, jail cell, courtroom, municipal offices and council chambers.
To commemorate the Town of Wainwright's centennial, Old Town Hall was restored in 2009. The restoration saw the reinstatement of council chambers to its original location on the second floor.
Old Town Hall was designated by the Town of Wainwright as a Muncipal Historic Resource in 2008.
