1. Strathcona Public Library Marker
Inscription. This was the first public library building in Edmonton. The Carnegie Foundation offered to build a library of a specified size and shape; this did not meet the requirements of the citizens of Strathcona, who refused the offer and instead financed their own larger building. Constructed in the English Renaissance style, the Strathcona Library was built at the time of the amalgamation of the cities of Edmonton and Strathcona. It has served the reading public since 1913.

The Strathcona Library was designated a Registered Historic Site on 14 July 1976, by the Hon. Horst A. Schmid, Minister of Culture.
