Regarding Port Townsend City Hall. Excerpt from the National Register nomination:
Present seat of city government, the building was constructed in 1891 and now houses Jefferson County Historical Museum and old basement jail in which Jack London was once incarcerated.
Though bullt in 1891, the city hall was not finally paid for until January 1, 1947, bringing to a happy conclusion one of the most drawn-out and relatively costly financial transactions of its type in Washington State annals.
