Inscription.

Private First Class (PFC) Charles Neilans DeGlopper was born November 22nd, 1922 on Grand Island, N.Y. He attended a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Tonawanda High School. After working for a couple of years, he was drafted into the Army in the fall of 1942.

Being assigned to the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division, he traveled to North Africa, Ireland and England. Departing England, they rode in on gliders into the area behind the enemy lines at the Normandy landing site.

He was instrumental in securing the LaFiere Bridge crossing. In an effort to regroup and successfully secure the bridge crossing, he lost his life by saving other members of his platoon from enemy fire.
